Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features several notable changes:

  • Every squad has only eight real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides more options for gamers looking for alternative methods to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
