The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
