It might not have been at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
